First Time Home Buyer's Seminar Scheduled for May 16, 2015

There will be a First Time Home Buyer's Seminar scheduled for May 16, 2015 from 10am to 2pm at the USO, located at 9 Tallman Street Jacksonville, NC. 

Have you ever toyed with the thought of owning your own home? How old were you when you rented your first apartment, townhouse, or single family home? Did you spend years paying someone else's mortgage only to realize that you could have been paying your own and gaining equity in an investment that would serve you later on?

Let's say you start renting at 19 years of age, paying $700 per month in rent and continue to do this for 5 years. By the time you are 24 years old, you have paid over $42,000 in rent fees, deposits, and miscellaneous charges, If only you had applied the same amount of money towards home-ownership, you could very possibly have equity in your investment that could continue to grow.

The fact is, we all have to pay for where we live in some way shape or form. How you choose to allow your money to work for you is up to you, but making sure that you are educated about the process is crucial.

One thing we like to do in my office is educate the public about the home-buying process in Jacksonville, NC. I can't tell you how many people I have spoken to over the years who thought that they could not buy a home because of their credit history. To the surprise of many, even if your credit score is below par, there are a few simple tasks you can complete to get your score up to where it needs to be. Other people have had a belief that their score needed to be over 800 to buy a home, when in fact, most mortgage lenders will accept a 600-620 credit score.

On Saturday, May 16th between 10am to 2pm there will be a FREE First Time Home Buyer's Seminar held at the USO in downtown Jacksonville, NC.  REALTORS Alyson Price and Chuck Huff will be there to offer free advice and education to anyone who wants to learn about the process. Mortgage Loan Officer Phyllis Gatlin of Veteran's United will be there to answer questions about the loan pre-qualification process, and Lance Jenkins, insurance agent with Farm Bureau will be there to discuss home-owner insurance policies.
